ASUS' Eee 904 Gets Official

Eee PC
ASUS is developing a new Eee PC that would offer the comfort of its larger 10-inch models at the cost of the 8.9-inch models, according to reports from supply channels. The Eee PC 904 and 905 would have the same 8.9-inch display as the 901 notebook but with the enclosure of the 1001, giving it a larger keyboard without necessarily changing the price. Battery life and storage may also go up with the larger case but are reportedly uncertain.

Both should still be based on the Intel Atom and will be close enough in feature set and cost to replace the Celeron-based 900 and Atom-based 901 outright, though whether this happens is unclear. ASUS is allegedly mulling keeping one or both of the earlier models in place at a lower cost to better match the Acer Aspire One, which sells for roughly $100 less than the Eee PC 901.

Presumably, the 904 and 905 will use the guts of the Eee PC 901 inside the bigger Eee PC 1000 chassis, although there's no official or even unofficial word on this as yet. At least the Eee PC 904 and 905 will have the better keyboard of the Eee PC 1000-series which is a blessing, as the keyboard on the smaller versions are just too small.

Keep in mind, the Eee Box will come in several configurations. According to PC World, hard drive capacities will range from 80GB to 250GB, and some models will run Linux while others will run Windows XP.

The Eee PC 904 and 905 will use Atom processors. Asus is apparently evaluating whether or not to add improved battery and storage capacity to the Eee PC 904 and 905.

These trendsetter models come in various flashy colours that are resilient to scrapes and scratches. For more screenspace the new Eee PCs? series integrate large 8.9″ to 10″ displays and comes with a built-in 1.3M Pixel webcam and a large keyboard. Available on Windows and GNU Linux platforms, ASUS 1000H, 1000 and 901 Eee PC models further the concept of 3 ´E´s to give its discriminating users easy and simple choice.

The new 904 and 905 is expected to keep the same form factor as the Eee PC 1000, but include a smaller 8.9 inch display, which means it will have a slightly larger bezel around the display, similar to the Eee PC 701. The 904 and 905 is also expected to feature a slightly bigger keyboard, but there was not any mention on what is expected to happen (if anything) in terms of storage capacity or battery size. As of now, there is not any expected time frame to see these new models begin shipping, however it is estimated that they will be priced in the same range as the Eee PC 900 or 901. With so many similar model numbers and little change between them spec wise it is becoming harder and harder to keep track of.
